Introduction
Everything you can see, touch, taste and feel is made of elements. Most of these elements were forged in the heart of exploding stars, including the elements that make up the calcium in your bones, the iron on your blood and the oxygen in your lungs!!
Fortunately for us, scientists have figured out how all these elements fit together and in the process, allow us to make predictions about how matter will react in different combinations. Let's begin out quest with a look at some of the early pioneers of the Periodic Table, how the table is arranged and what the elements are all about.

This webquest has three parts; and you are responsible for all three.

Part I: Individually, each student will complete a paper on Mendeleev. Follow the link to the assignment that is posted above.

Part II: Individually, each student will complete an element tile, that contains detailed information about the element. I will give you a detailed list in class.

Part III: As a group of 3-4, students will prepare a PowerPoint presentation on a family of elements that I will assign you. Each student will be responsible for creating a section of the presentation.

The group will also create 5 test questions from their presentation (with my approval) to be used in a later exam. The group project will be graded using a rubric and all members will receive the same grade.

To begin, break up into groups of three and I will assign you a family when I meet with you. You must begin with completing assignment #1, the paper on Dimitri Mendeleev.
